Physical activity and the outdoors:
P5: Complete a sport for an entire term
In term 1 and 4 Miss Young our multimaterials teacher runs girls and boy surfing down at Omanu Beach, she teaches year 7 and 8 girls/boys of any experience how to surf. At each start of the term she teaches how to do jump ups on the ground and then slowly you move to doing it on your board, then eventually you will stand up on your board while riding a wave, we practicing every wednesday afternoon. Miss Young also teaches us water safety, tides, swells, rips, how we generally keep safe in the water and when & where we should go surfing, so we know when it's safe or not. I also did surfing in term 4 2012, I learnt how to stand up and im still currently doing surfing now also. When you start surfing you start surfing white water waves so they aren't as big, safer and easier to learn how to stand up on. 4 weeks ago I ride my first ever green water wave which is a wave that hasn't broken yet and they are a lot harder but now I can ride them pretty easy.
I got my first ever surfboard last year for my birthday, as you can see in the pictures above it looks like a twister board. It's an arcade board, which is a Mount Maungani brand, it's a mini mal and it's 7.6 inches. I really enjoy surfing now that I can practice anytime I want to. I'm learning tricks now, but currently the only tricks I can do is jump from one side of my board to the other so im facing the other way, and the other trick is that I can turn sharp one way then turn sharp the next way. Im still learning heaps of new things but I just enjoy doing the simple things like just simply surfing a white water wave. The reason I love surfing is that when your standing on a wave looking out into the beach the moment is indescribable, every time or moment your on a wave is different, you can never relive any of the amazing moments but they just keep getting better. Even when you fall of or face plant into the sand you still manage to laugh about it and then go back out there. I plan to surf in term 4 also and for years to come.

You described the experience of surfing so eloquently! Love your surfboard. Keep up the surfing - can't wait till term 4.
