Rimu house, swimming sports 2013

Rimu House, swimming sports 2013:
On Friday the 22nd of March Rimu house adventured off to Memorial Pools for our house swimming sports. The event's were 25m freestyle, 25m backstroke, underwater race, dolphin dive, 50m freestyle, 25m breastroke and doggie paddle. Everyone was excited to get on the water and looking forward to having a big laugh at each other. I entered in all of the events except breastroke. I came 2nd in 25m freestyle, dolphin dive and in underwater race, I also came 1st in 25m backstroke, doggie paddle and 50m freestyle I was also apart of the room 42's class relay, and we came 1st! with room 30 coming in at a close 2nd. Our house spent part of the day socializing with each other and I believe everyone really enjoyed it. We were all able to joke around and swim in front of each other, and encourage each other without getting embarrassed. I personally enjoyed racing my friends because we would try to talk to each other while we were racing and watching the teacher’s race in the class relay. A memory I would keep from swimming sports would be watching our whole house cheering and getting excited about the races.

The little tent that cried:

3 things I’ve learned:
1. I’ve learnt how to complete a inquiry project
2. I’ve learnt what the water cycle is and how it works
3.I have also Learnt how to complete a task with out physically interacting with your partner and only using chat’s.

2 Benefit’s of working with your partner:
1. A benefit working with Jahna is that me and my partner get along really well and we were able to work to together
2. A benefit also is that she knew about the water cycle and when I didn’t understand information from a website she explained it well, so she made sure I understood

 1 Difficulty that you, overcame
1. When my partner was out of class and I had to do a lot of work by myself

My first month at TIS

My first month at TIS has been filled with new adventure and opportunities. Recently I had to present a speech in front of Rimu house to explain why I could be there house leader, a couple of day's later I was presented with the job, I'm so fortunate and Thankful to have been chosen to be the house leader. I have started tennis for the year and had a pretty full and hard schedule, I recently found out that I can't play football due to a knee injury last year so I have to play netball for the school. We have had 2 trials and I think I did okay but I hadn't played for awhile as I quit to play soccer. I have aslo started surfing for the school and I've learn't a new way to stand up and helps with my knee injury. In math's we have already learned about BEDMAS, exponents, standardform, square rooting and we are currently learning the pythagoras theorem.. I'm really looking forward to leadership camp and being part of the student council. I've made new friends in my class and have really enjoyed being year 8 so far, I'm excited to spread my idea's towards the student council and being apart of the new and improved mighty Rimu house.

2013 House leader speech:

Hello, my name is Jessica ....I would firstly like to tell you a little bit about myself, Im 12 years old, Im in room 42 rimu house of course, I play football, tennis & surfing. Rimu I stand here before you to explain why I could be your house leader of 2013,

I realize that it's a privilege to be in a great house like Rimu and to be able to share my last year at intermediate with amazing teachers and students. I promise to work hard to be the effective leader that you would be proud of. I will try to uphold and obey the S.T.A.R.S and become the role model that you can all look up to. I will assist teachers and students in any way possible to the best of my abilities. I will always try to be respectful, responsible, honest, trustworthy and reliable. I will always try to treat everyone equally and I will aim to become a person that everyone would feel comfortable coming to. I would always take my responsibilities very seriously and always with a smile.

I have done few sports in my time, and I understand the pressure to succeed and how much you really want to do well, and I know how much the continuous support of everyone around helps, and therefore I will stand by each and every member of rimu. I got sport’s girl of the year at my old school in auckland and I was also a house leader, so I understand the responsibilities that come with the job and the abilities you need to uphold this job.

This job demands time, effort, enthusiasm and most of all, the ability to lead. I believe I hold all these qualities and if not, I am more than willing to learn them in the process. I promise to dedicate myself to serving the school and especially you, my fellow students. I had the Honor to be class leader in 2012, it was an amazing experience and now I believe i’m ready for the next step of responsibilities. Being house leader or not I will stand up for my house and cheer them on continuously. I won’t just try be a leader, I will aim to be looked at as a friend to all the pupils of rimu, and hopefully a good student in my teachers eyes. I will push everyone to the extent of there abilities academically and physically, I will reach for the spirit trophy but encourage till the end, and stand by each and everyone one of you.
